NanoActive Technology

NanoScale has combined advanced chemistry and innovative engineering to produce a line of reactive nanoparticle materials. Marketed under the brand name NanoActive®, these materials are differentiated by their chemical and physical properties:

  • HIGH SURFACE AREA allows for more surface-chemical interaction (Play Animation)
  • SMALL CRYSTALLITE SIZES results in more effective active sites
  • UNIQUE MORPHOLOGY takes advantage of chemical reactivity
  • LARGE PORE VOLUME for internal and external reactions to take place

Our NanoActive Materials are non-toxic, non-corrosive, and environmentally friendly. The materials exhibit the unique and important reactivity characteristics of nanomaterials without the concerns and perceived risks often associated with nanoparticles. The materials are commercially available to match specific application requirements.

The inherent chemical reactivity centers on their high surface area. Because of their exceptional porosity, NanoActive Materials have demonstrated the ability to destructively adsorb a wide range of harmful chemicals and odor causing compounds.

Our manufacturing techniques produce advanced materials with small crystallite sizes (eg., 2-10 nm), which agglomerate into micron size particles (2-10 μm) and have very high porosity (up to 1.5 cc/g). This porosity allows for the entire particle to be utilized in the reaction. Specifically, the molecular structure allows for higher chemical reaction and faster binding affinity to reactive agents on surfaces or airborne. This highly porous structure enables the materials to absorb substances into the pore space by contact with coordinated unsaturated atoms/ions on the corners and edges of the crystal lattice structure.

Advantages of using NanoActive metal oxides include:

  • Increased chemical and biological reactivity
  • Increased chemical selectivity
  • Containment and destruction of chemical and biological hazards
  • Safe, non-toxic, non-corrosive and non-flammable formulations
  • Effective over a wide range of temperatures and environmental conditions
  • Availability in powder, suspension, and granular forms
  • Many times the surface area of commercial grade metal oxides
  • Large pores allowing many surface active sites to be used during chemical reactions
  • Benefits of nanocrystalline chemistry in safe micron sized particles
