Evaluation of NanoScale Formulations (FAST-ACT and NanoActive TiO₂) and Performance Comparison to A-200-SiC-1005 and PRF-EA-D-2166 B Requirements

Summary:
Battelle Hazardous Materials Research Center personnel completed comparison testing of NanoActive TiO₂, FAST-ACT and Guild A-200-SiC-1005 (sorbent used in the M100 and M295) against Chemical Warfare Agents (CWAs). NanoActive TiO₂ and FAST-ACT met the PRF-EA-D-2166 B requirements for use in the M100 kit and performed better than M100 under the requirement conditions (2:1 sorbent:agent ratio).

• This technology is commercially available, safe, and ready for deployment.

Performance Highlights:

• In testing, at 2:1 sorbent to agent ratio against 2-CEES and DMMP, NanoScale products had 2x the adsorptive removal performance of A200.
• In Battelle studies against VX, after 15 minutes NanoScale products exhibited 2-3x the effectiveness of A-200. FAST-ACT removed 65% of the agent; NanoActive TiO2 removed 82%; A-200 only removed 27% .
• At 2 hours, both NanoScale products achieved greater than 99% removal of VX in 2:1 ratio tests at 50°C, compared to only 32% by A-200.
• After 1 hour, both NanoScale products had 1.5x greater performance against HD than A-200 with greater than 60% destroyed in 10:1 studies.
